Our roof painting process
- InspectWe check the condition of tiles or sheets, ridges and flashings, and tell you upfront about anything that needs attention before painting.
- High-pressure cleanDirt, moss, lichen and loose coatings are removed so the new coating bonds to a sound surface.
- Treat and primeSurface rust on metal is treated and tiles are sealed or primed to suit the roof type.
- Two topcoatsRoof coating is applied in your chosen colour for even coverage and long-lasting protection.
- Clean up and final checkWe remove overspray, tidy the site and walk you through the finished roof.
Tile roofs and metal roofs
Concrete and terracotta tiles
Concrete tiles lose their surface coating over time, which is what makes an older roof look faded and porous. After cleaning, a sealer or primer helps the new coating bond and evens out the finish. Glazed terracotta is often best left unpainted, while unglazed or previously painted terracotta can be recoated. We'll tell you honestly which applies to your roof.
Metal roofs
Faded or chalky metal roofing can be repainted once it's cleaned and any surface rust is treated. Sheets that are badly rusted or holed need replacing rather than painting, and we'll say so at the quote.
Choosing a roof colour
Lighter roof colours reflect more of the sun's heat than dark ones, which is worth weighing up in a Queensland summer. We'll show you colour options and talk through how the roof will sit with your walls, trims and gutters.
Safety on the roof
All roof work is carried out under Safe Work Method Statements with appropriate fall protection. Sky Light Painting carries $20 million public liability insurance.
