Why exterior paint fails in South East Queensland

Queensland homes cop a lot. Intense UV chalks and fades paint, humid summers encourage mould, and storm season drives water into every crack and joint. Most of the peeling and flaking we're asked to fix doesn't come from bad paint. It comes from paint applied over dirty, chalky or unsealed surfaces.

That's why an exterior repaint with Sky Light Painting starts with the surface, not the colour chart.

What's included in an exterior repaint

  • High-pressure washing to remove dirt, chalk and mould
  • Scraping and sanding loose or flaking paint
  • Filling cracks, gaps and nail holes
  • Spot-priming bare timber, metal and repairs
  • Sealing gaps around windows, doors and trims
  • Two topcoats of premium Dulux exterior paint
  • Eaves, fascias, gutters and downpipes
  • Doors, frames, balustrades and decks on request
  • Drop sheets and masking for gardens, paths and glass
  • A final walkthrough and touch-ups

Surfaces we paint

Weatherboard and timber

Timber moves with heat and moisture. We sand back failing coats, prime bare wood and seal joints so the new paint can move with the boards instead of cracking.

Render, bagged brick and masonry

Masonry needs to be clean and sound before it's painted. We wash, repair hairline cracks and use exterior systems suited to rendered and masonry walls.

Fibre cement and cladding

Fibre cement sheeting and Hardie-style cladding are repainted with extra attention to joints and edges, where water most often gets in.

Eaves, fascias, gutters and trims

The details are what make a repaint look sharp. Straight cut-in lines on trims and clean gutters are what separate a professional finish from a weekend job.

Choosing exterior colours

Not sure where to start? We can talk through colour schemes on site, including how colours read in strong Queensland light and how darker shades absorb more heat. For a confident choice, test sample pots on two or three walls that get different sun before committing.

Backed in writing. Every job comes with our 5-year workmanship warranty, plus the Dulux manufacturer warranty on the paint itself.

How long does an exterior repaint take?

It depends on the size and height of the home, how much preparation is needed and the weather. Paint shouldn't go onto wet surfaces or on in the rain, so we plan around forecasts and keep you updated if the schedule moves. You'll get an expected timeframe in your written quote.

We repaint homes across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Logan.

FAQ

Exterior House Painting questions

Still have a question? Call Ali on 0432 849 406.

How often should a house exterior be repainted in Queensland?

As a general guide, many Queensland homes need an exterior repaint every 7 to 10 years, sooner on sun-exposed or coastal walls. Signs it is time include chalky residue when you rub the wall, fading, cracking, peeling or bare timber. An on-site inspection gives the real answer for your home.

Do I need to be home during an exterior repaint?

Usually not, as long as we have access to the outside of the property along with water and power. We confirm access details before the job starts.

Can you fix rotten timber before painting?

Minor filling and surface repairs are part of our preparation. If we find boards or trims that need replacing, we point it out in the quote so they can be repaired before painting.

What happens if it rains?

Exterior paint should not be applied to wet surfaces. We plan around the forecast and let you know straight away if rain shifts the schedule.
